What is LightSpeed Mobile?
Retail sales staff can use LightSpeed Mobile to connect to a LightSpeed database and process customer invoices anywhere in the store with an iPhone or iPod touch. Connect the Linea Pro included in the LightSpeed Mobile Hardware Kit to an iPod touch 2G or 3G, and add the ability to scan product barcodes and swipe credit cards, allowing you to offer your customers an efficient, personalized shopping experience. Invoices are saved in LightSpeed, which includes backend retail management features like purchasing and reporting in a comprehensive and easy-to-use Mac desktop app.

No. LightSpeed Mobile requires you to log in to a LightSpeed database.

CONFIGURATION

What version of LightSpeed is required?
LightSpeed 3.2 or higher is required.

How does LightSpeed Mobile connect to a LightSpeed database?
LightSpeed Mobile can connect to a LightSpeed database over Wi-fi, 3G or over a VPN.

Does LightSpeed Mobile count as a user license when logged into the LightSpeed database?
Yes. You need a LightSpeed Server with 1 available user license per LightSpeed Mobile client. For example: A 5-User LightSpeed Server can allow concurrent logins from up to 5 Mac or Mobile clients at one time. It is recommended that you upgrade your LightSpeed installation to accommodate any additional LightSpeed Mobile clients.

How do I keep my LightSpeed Mobile app up-to-date?
Periodically, LightSpeed Mobile updates through the iTunes App Store will become available for download. Unless otherwise stated, you would not need to update your LightSpeed installation for Mac.

HARDWARE

What is the LightSpeed Mobile Hardware Kit?
The LightSpeed Mobile Hardware Kit is compatible with the iPod Touch 2G and 3G, and includes the Linea Pro “sled” and charging cable. The Linea Pro looks like a case for the iPod Touch and adds a barcode scanner and credit card swipe to the unit. It also includes a battery pack to power the scanner. The included USB-A to Mini-B cable allows you to charge the Linea Pro and iPod touch simultaneously by connecting to a desktop Mac.

Which Apple products does the LightSpeed Mobile Hardware Kit work with?
LightSpeed Mobile Hardware Kit is currently offered for iPod touch 2G and 3G models only. iOS 4.0 or higher is required.

Can I use LightSpeed Mobile without the Hardware Kit?
Yes, but you will not be able to scan product barcodes or swipe credit cards. However you can search for products and process credit cards manually.

Can I use LightSpeed Mobile on iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4G?
Yes, but these products cannot be used with the Hardware Kit. A device running iOS 4.0 or higher is required.

Can I use LightSpeed Mobile on iPad?
No, LightSpeed Mobile is currently only available for the iPod touch and iPhone.

Can I use the LightSpeed Mobile with other iPhone or iPod credit card swipes?
No.

PAYMENTS

Can customers pay by credit card?
Yes. You must have a valid credit card processing account set up in LightSpeed to use this feature. Customers can sign for their purchase directly in LightSpeed Mobile with their finger or by using a stylus, and their receipt is e-mailed to them at the end of the transaction.

What credit card processors are supported?
LightSpeed Mobile processes credit card payments on the LightSpeed Server, so it supports all credit card processors supported by LightSpeed Point of Sale. These processors include Axia, Merchant Warehouse, Heartland Payment Systems and Authorize.net.

Can customers pay by cash, debit, cheque, gift card, etc?
Upon completing an invoice, a sales representative can click the “Use Other Payment Method” button, which directs them to enter payment for that Invoice using the Browser in LightSpeed on a Mac station. The invoice ID is displayed on the LightSpeed Mobile device for reference.

FUNCTIONALITY

Can I search for customers in my LightSpeed database and attach them to an invoice?
Yes.

Can I enter a Walk In customer?
Yes.

Can I scan serial numbers, activate/redeem gift cards, login using Bonjour, enter new customers or do returns?
These actions are not supported in LightSpeed Mobile 1.0, and must currently be done on the Mac version of LightSpeed.
